Mafdet is a goddess who originated in the 1st dynasty. She is one who protects Ra and the Pharaoh, and is destroyer of venomous snakes and scorpions. She was often depicted as a feline, or a feline-headed woman, but could have also been depicted as a civet or african mongoose. Her symbol was the executioners staff, a curved pole with a knife lashed onto it.
She rules over the Judgement Hall in the Duat, decapitating the enemies of the pharaoh with her claw.
